Parking

Recommended Apps

  • SpotHero

    • reserve & prepay garage parking

  • Parkopedia

    • information on street & garage parking

    • you can reserve a spot through the app as well, but SpotHero tends to work better & has better prices

Free Street Parking

  • From Sleeper Street to the end of 343 Congress (near Smoke Shop BBQ). One side only.

  • On Melcher Street in front of the Blue Dragon restaurant near the intersection with A street.

  • On Boston Wharf Road, starting at the intersection of Congress street, roughly across from 22 Boston Wharf Road.

  • On Summer Street (both sides), roughly at 283 Summer Street (starts closer to Melcher Street intersection).

    • Summer street is above Congress. You’ll need to go down the stairs near the end of the block (puts you on A street). Or go towards the bridge and take the boardwalk in front of the Channel Building (head towards the Children’s Museum).

Parking Garages

I highly recommend using SpotHero to reserve & prepay for a garage spot. They typically have discounted rates as well. If a garage is full, call their Customer Support line and they’ll quickly find & reserve another spot nearby.

  • Farnsworth Garage, 17 Farnsworth St, Fort Point, Boston, MA 02210

  • 321 Congress Street Garage, 321 Congress St, Fort Point, Boston, MA 02210

  • 363 Congress St Garage, 363 Congress St, Fort Point, Boston, MA 02210

Directions from Acton

Your GPS will work just fine, but I added some tips on lanes & alternative routes I’ve gathered after years of getting lost in the Seaport.

If you’re planning to avoid 93 & 95, DO NOT take Memorial Drive. It is closed on weekends from 11am -7pm, but sometimes they close it early. Take Soldier’s Field/Storrow instead.

via i-90 (~30-45m)

  • Take Rt 2 East to I-95 S

  • Follow I-95 S to I-90 E

  • Exit I-90 E at Exit 135 and Stay to the Right to get on to S Boston Bypass (the signs are placed too late to be useful)

  • Take the first right from S Boston Bypass to W Service Rd Ext. This whole section looks suspiciously industrial and there will likely be a few trucks.

  • To get to nearby parking from W Service Rd Ext:

    • Go straight across Congress St to get to street parking on Boston Wharf Rd

    • Go left onto Congress St to get to 363 Congress Garage (left side), Farnsworth Garage (turn right down Farnsworth), and 321 Congress Garage (left side)

    • To get to the street parking on 343 Congress St, follow Boston Wharf Rd to Seaport Blvd, turn left onto Seaport Blvd, then Left onto Sleeper Street.

      • You can also go left down Congress from Boston Wharf Rd, turn right onto Sleeper St, and make a U-turn in one of the alleys (it’s usually a quiet road)

  • Troubleshooting the Seaport traffic “pattern”

    • If you go too far down Congress St and are about to hit the bridge, turn Left on Melcher St (tiny road before the bridge), take the first left onto A Street, and then left onto Congress St

    • If you get forced across the bridge, take a left onto Dorchester Ave, turn left onto Summer Street, and turn left on A Street

via I-95 to I-93 (~40-50m)

  • Take Rt 2 E to I-95 N (exit 127B)

  • Take Exit 55A to I-93 S to Boston

  • Follow I-93 S to Exit 16B to Purchase St. There will be 2 exit lanes—stay in the left exit lane

    • If you can’t get into the left lane, head towards the Financial district (straight-ish), continue down Purchase St, and take a left onto Congress St (2nd left turn). This route tends to have more traffic & confused pedestrians but is otherwise the same.

  • Turn left after you exit the tunnel to cross the bridge onto Seaport Blvd. Get into the right lane on Seaport Blvd.

  • Immediately after you cross the bridge, turn right onto Sleeper Street

  • Turn left on Congress St at the end of Sleeper Street

  • To get to parking from here:

    • 343 Congress street parking starts as you turn onto Congress St (right side)

    • Go straight down Congress and turn left onto Boston Wharf Rd to get to Boston Wharf Rd street parking

    • Go down Congress & take a right onto A Street to get to Melcher street parking, or continue down Melcher & turn right onto Summer St to get to Summer St street parking

    • Go down Congress St to get to 321 Congress St Garage (right side immediately after turn from Sleeper), Farnsworth St Garage (turn left onto Farnsworth St), and 363 Congress St Garage (right side past A street)

  • Troubleshooting I-93 Exit & Downtown

    • If you get stuck in the right-most lane when exiting I-93, head towards the Financial District to stay on Purchase Street, then turn left onto Congress St.

      • If you miss the Congress St turn, take the next left onto Summer St towards South Station, and go straight across the bridge. There may be many confused pedestrians here and a liberal understanding of traffic laws.

      • Past the bridge on Summer Street, turn right onto Melcher & follow it to A street, take a left on A street, and follow it to the intersection with Congress St. Go left onto Congress St to get to the museum, Farnsworth & 321 Congress Garages, or right to get to the Boston Wharf street parking & 363 Congress garage.

    • If you get stuck and end up heading towards Downtown (turned hard right onto Oliver St), go past High St & turn left on Franklin St, turn left onto Summer St, and continue straight to cross the bridge.

      • Turn right onto Melcher St, then left on A street to get back onto Congress St. Go left onto Congress St to get to the museum, Farnsworth & 321 Congress Garages, or right to get to the Boston Wharf street parking & 363 Congress garage.

    • If your GPS dumps you off I-93 near Faneuil Hall, stay on Surface Rd (which becomes Purchase St) and go all the way down to Seaport Blvd or Congress St.

Avoiding Freeways (~45m - 1h 30m)

  • Take Rt 2 E all the way into Cambridge (Alewife).

  • Stay in the middle lane to take the right-veering exit after the Alewife Station exit to get onto Alewife Brook Pkwy.

    • if you accidentally end up going to Alewife Station, keep going straight past the station, then turn left towards the light, and turn right onto Alewife Brook Pkwy.

  • The middle lane splits to exit both left and right. Exit to the right but get into the left lane of the right-side split if you can (the line is usually shorter).

  • Keep straight past two traffic circles down Fresh Pond Parkway.

  • Veer left to get onto Gerrys Landing Rd, then continue straight.

    • The Fresh Pond to Gerrys Landing intersection is a bit of a “choose your own adventure” area, so pick any lane and then try to get towards the left.

  • DO NOT take the left turn towards Memorial Drive / Cambridge.

    • If your GPS tells you to go towards Memorial Drive, it is confused. The whole stretch of Mem Drive is usually closed on Sunday mornings.

  • At the next split, veer left towards Boston / Newton.

    • Note that GPS in this area tends to lag considerably, so it may struggle to reroute you. If you miss the turn, stay in the left lane and make a U-turn at the opening across from a parking lot (after the school). From there, veer right to cross Eliot Bridge.

    • Make your way to the left lane to avoid the lane drops on the right.

  • Follow Soldier’s Field Rd / Storrow Dr to Government Center / MGH (where the Longfellow Bridge ends).

  • Head down Cambridge St.

    • Stay in the right lane to avoid hospital traffic, then get into the left/middle lanes to avoid double-parked trucks.

  • Take a left on Sudbury St and go straight past Congress St & Haymarket Station.

    • You can turn onto Congress St here but be aware that you’ll pass Faneuil Hall & all the summer tourists on the Freedom Trail.

  • Turn right on Surface Rd (right after the Haymarket station on the right and Boston Public Market garage on the right).

  • Follow Surface Rd all the way down along the harbor, then turn left onto Congress St. and cross the bridge.
